Background

As part of the 2020 City of Loveland Master Plan, US 34 was shown to need widening to three lanes between Denver Avenue and I-25. As population and development increased, the City of Loveland began budgeting for expansion and widening portions of the highway as funds became available. After multiple Master Plan updates over the years, the City of Loveland was able to budget the final improvements for US 34 between Boyd Lake Avenue and Fall River Road and began the environmental process with state and federal department of transportations.

Adding a third westbound lane will help reduce traffic and improve safety by removing the current bottleneck where three lanes merge into two.

This project will be partnering with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the City of Greeley to bring better bus service to US 34 in 2026. The dedicated bus lane at traffic lights will help buses move through intersections faster and offer more reliability.

With sidewalk connectivity along US 34 in this location, bikes and pedestrians will also be able to gain access to the many businesses along the roadway increasing Loveland's active modes of transportation alternatives.
