Cemetery Hours

September 1 to April 1: Sunrise to sunset
April 2 to August 31: Sunrise to one hour after sunset

Burial and Interment services take place during the hours of Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Fridays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.. For an addition $600.00 after-hours fee, burial and interment services may be scheduled outside of normal business hours (subject to staff availability). If you know the service will need to take place outside normal business hours, please let us know as soon as possible.

Cemetery Information

The City-owned Loveland Burial Park and Lakeside Cemetery date back to the 1800s and are rich in early Larimer County pioneering family history.

The 47-acre site consists of two facilities: Loveland Burial Park and Lakeside Cemetery. The two facilities are physically divided by Colorado State Highway 287. As a result of its central location, the cemetery and burial park are easily accessible to the community.

Due to grounds maintenance requirements, the cemetery and burial park are operated and maintained by the City of Loveland Parks & Recreation Department.

Seasonal Clean-Up

If you have placed decorations or adornments that you wish to keep, please remove them before April 1 and October 1.

Properly placed adornments in upright sections that are in good shape will be left alone. Between April 1 and September 30 live flowers ONLY will be allowed in the flat marker sections.

If you have placed decorations or adornments that you wish to keep, please have them removed prior to April 1 and October 1. Please remove all worn and out-of-season flowers, wreaths and adornments that have been placed on graves and columbarium niches prior to cleanup.

Adornments and decorations in good condition located on upright headstones and headstone bases may remain.
As in the past, all artificial flowers and adornments will be removed from all graves in the flat marker sections.
All worn and out-of-season decorations in the upright and columbarium sections will be removed as well.
Glass and ceramic decorations of any kind, solar lights, shepherds’ hooks, decorative landscape rocks, bricks, and any type of edging borders are not allowed at any time as they present significant safety hazards for our staff and the public. We ask that these items are removed and not returned.
Columbarium Decorations: Any decorations that are attached to the columbarium walls without the approved vase/adhesive system shall be removed. Most adhesives have a long-term detrimental effect to the granite surface.

For fall clean-up, we kindly request that families remove/cut back all plantings at gravesites. Staff will cut down all remaining perennial plantings except roses, which will be trimmed to meet minimum maintenance standards.

Please note the cemetery is not responsible for all items that may go missing. Items removed by cemetery staff will be tagged and held for one year. To schedule a time to retrieve decorations, please call 970.962.2430 or email cemetery@cityofloveland.org. After one year, unclaimed items will be disposed of.

Historical Data

The Loveland Historical Society holds tours of the cemeteries as part of their "May is Historic Preservation Month" activities. The Loveland Reporter Herald wrote an article about the cemetery and the tour in May of 2013. Here are excerpts from that article.

When Loveland was founded in 1877, the city needed a cemetery, so on Feb. 5, 1880, W.B. Osborn and G.W. Litle signed the incorporation of Lakeside Burial Park. The prominent Timpke-Osborn family owned the cemetery until 1919, when the city purchased and took over its management.

The first burial in the park took place in 1880 for Elizabeth Burdette, but the oldest grave is for Joseph McFadden, who died in 1877. His grave was moved from the Old St. Louis Cemetery.

Judge W.B. Osborn moved the Big Thompson Cemetery, later know as the Old St. Louis Cemetery, to Lakeside in 1884. The Timpke-Osborn family had erected a two-ton headstone for their family lot that contained eight plots.

In 1912, Wilbert Stiles, a wealthy land and water owner, started Loveland Burial Park nearby. Mayor Archibald Foster wanted the city to operate both cemeteries as one, so the city purchased Loveland Burial Park in 1919, the same year the city received the deed of transfer for Lakeside Cemetery.

The headstones in Lakeside Cemetery carry a variety of images, including animals, angels and plants.

Memorial Donations

As a result of its tax-exempt, nonprofit organization status, several donations are received through the Loveland Parks & Recreation Foundation each year for the parks system.

Donations range from cash to flowers, to benches and trees. The Foundation solicits grants and other private & public funds to enhance its efforts and stretch available resources. Many donors feel the Foundation is an excellent mechanism to provide community assets or to make contributions in honor of their loved ones.

Tree Donations
Each year the Foundation accepts a number of donations for trees to be planted at a park, in the cemetery, on the golf courses, or along the Recreational Trail System. Donors work with City staff to determine appropriate planting locations. A tree is a donation that keeps on giving to the community for years to come.
Bench Donations
Benches are a very popular donation item for parks, the cemetery, the golf courses and the Recreational Trail System. Often benches are donated in memory of a loved one. Appropriate bench locations are coordinated with City staff. Small plaques may be placed on the benches in accordance with the City Plaque Policies.

Other Donations

The Loveland Parks & Recreation Foundation also accepts donations for a number of other special projects or needs. Donors have made contributions for the Youth Scholarship Program, Adaptive Recreation Programs, a Youth Athletic Complex, a Skate Park, Flowers and Recreational Equipment.
Donors to the Loveland Parks & Recreation Foundation can take pride in their contribution to the quality of life in Loveland. How can I memorialize a loved one?

The Parks & Recreation Foundation works with the Parks & Recreation Department to allow Memorial Plaques, Memorial Benches, and Memorial Trees to be donated and placed in our Parks. Please follow the link to the proper information within our pages: Donations

Are credit cards accepted at the Burial Park / Cemetery?

Yes. Credit cards, cash and checks are accepted as payment.

What are the visiting hours at the Burial Park / Cemetery?

The Burial Park / Cemetery is open for visitors from sunrise to sunset.

If the concrete foundation for a headstone I own needs repair, who is responsible?

Please contact the monument company that installed your foundation to see if warranty service is available. If the cemetery poured your foundation, the city will warrant the cement work for five years.

Are personal plantings allowed in the Burial Park / Cemetery?

Are chapel tents available for services at the Burial Park / Cemetery?

Yes! For $100.00, we can offer tent and chair setup for services.

What is meant by "Perpetual Care"?

At the Burial Park / Cemetery, perpetual care includes general care and preservation of the interment sites and landscapes, grounds, walks, roadways, and structures (so the grounds shall remain and be reasonably cared for as cemetery grounds forever). Perpetual care does not include care of monuments, foundations, or personal plantings.

How old is the cemetery in Loveland?

The cemetery was founded in 1877 and has been operated and maintained by the city since 1919.

Are burial sites still available at the Burial Park / Cemetery?
