Like most Americans, Loveland residents celebrate the 4th of July with picnics, parties and sometimes, illegal fireworks.
Illegal fireworks such as bottle rockets, cherry bombs, mortars, M-80’s and Roman candles, send pets running for cover and exasperate neighbors. They can also cause serious eye injuries, severe burns to hands and faces, and worse. Additionally, they can be profoundly disturbing for veterans or anyone suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and on top of that, pose additional fire danger in our already arid landscape.
Legal Fireworks
Legal fireworks include devices such as sparklers, snakes, fountains, smoke balls, items with crackle or strobe effects, wheels and spinners and various novelty items that can be purchased at sanctioned fireworks stands within Loveland's City limits.
Illegal Fireworks
Simply put, anything that leaves the ground is illegal in Loveland, Larimer County and the State of Colorado. That includes devices such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, cherry bombs, mortars, M-80s and Roman candles.
Penalties for Use of Illegal Fireworks
Due to the concerted effort by the City Manager, the Loveland Police Department and the Loveland Fire & Rescue Authority to inform people that illegal fireworks in Loveland are considered highly dangerous and a major safety concern, the Loveland Municipal Court believes the maximum fine of $2,650 is appropriate.
Adults: Offense is punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,650 fine or a combination of both. The minimum fine is $1,000.
Juveniles: Offense is punishable by up to a $2,650 fine. The minimum fine is $1,000.
The Loveland Police and Fire Departments have requested that all visitors to the North Lake Park area leave pets, alcoholic beverages, and personal fireworks at home as the risk for injury is quite high with the large crowds expected.
Violators will risk receipt of a summons for violating the City ordinance against consuming alcoholic beverages and/or shooting fireworks in a public place.
Personal Fireworks Prohibited
Note: Personal use of fireworks are banned at North Lake Park for July 4th and will be strictly enforced by the Loveland Police Department. Do not light personal fireworks in public places.

Located at the corner of Taft Avenue & 29th Street in northwest Loveland, North Lake Park also offers one of the area’s finest outdoor entertainment venues at the Norma & Lynn Hammond Amphitheater.
Constructed and dedicated in 1996 by the Loveland Rotary Club, the City of Loveland, and many local philanthropists, this facility offers exceptional acoustics surrounded by grass seating. For the July 4th festivities, there will be close to 10,000 spectators gathered in this area!
July 4th Park Hours
North Lake Park is open to the public from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily.
After hours camping, personal fireworks and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park.
Alcohol Permits will not be issued for this park or Dwayne Webster Veteran's Park on July 4th.
Park Area Closures
The fireworks launch location will once again impact areas of the park this year with the following areas being closed. This is to allow for set-up/safety zone of the fireworks launch site. Areas off-limits to spectators will be fenced and posted, and security personnel or police will patrol the cleared areas regularly.
