Election Sign Standards
Temporary signs can be posted in Loveland city limits if the person who posts them follows the City’s Unified Development Code, Section 18.04.08.09: Temporary Signs. What’s NOT Allowed
- Yard signs, banners, or site signs attached to fences, poles, or trees
- Banners or yard signs attached to T-Posts
- Banners or feather flags on residential property, except for multifamily housing
- Flying banners
- Site signs or yard signs on buildings or vehicles
- Site signs on residential properties that are 2.5 acres or smaller
- Yard signs or site signs in the Downtown Sign District
Election Yard Sign Standards – What’s Allowed
Residential
- Location: At least 2 feet from sidewalks and property lines and out of rights of way, including roadways, medians, roundabouts, curbs, sidewalks, and the landscaped area between curbs and sidewalks. Signs must be attached to a U or H metal frame posted in the ground.
- Number: Maximum of 12 signs per property
- Duration: Up to 10 signs may be displayed during two time periods of up to 60 days each year, which may be stacked. Up to two signs are not time restricted.
- Sign Height: Up to 4 feet (height includes both the sign and post[s] supporting it)
- Sign Area: Up to 6 square feet
- Lighting: Not allowed
- Permit: Not required
Non-Residential
- Location: At least 2 feet from sidewalks and property lines and out of rights of way, including roadways, medians, roundabouts, curbs, sidewalks, and the landscaped area between curbs and sidewalks. Signs must be attached to a U or H metal frame posted in the ground.
- Number: Maximum of one sign for every 80 feet of property frontage (as measured in a line)
- Duration: May be displayed during two time periods of up to 60 days each year, which may be consecutive
- Sign Height: Up to 4 feet (height includes both the sign and post[s] supporting it)
- Sign Area: Up to 6 square feet
- Lighting: Not allowed
- Permit: Not required
Election Site Sign Standards – What’s Allowed
A site sign is a sturdy, temporary sign that typically measures the size of a sheet of plywood and is supported by wood or metal posts in the ground.
Residential (properties of 2.5 acres or larger only)
- Location: At least 2 feet from property lines and out of rights of way, including roads, medians, roundabouts, curbs, sidewalks, and the landscaped area between curbs and sidewalks. Site signs cannot be attached to fences, poles, trees, or buildings.
- Number: Maximum of one sign per street frontage
- Duration: May be displayed for up to 180 consecutive days per calendar year
- Sign Height: Up to 6 feet, including support posts
- Sign Area: Up to 32 square feet
- Lighting: Not allowed
- Permit: Required
Non-Residential
- Location: At least 2 feet from property lines and out of rights of way, including roads, medians, roundabouts, curbs, sidewalks, and the landscaped area between curbs and sidewalks. Site signs cannot be attached to fences, poles, trees, or buildings.
- Number: Maximum of one sign for every 600 feet of property frontage (measured in a straight line). If more than one sign is allowed, they may be clustered.
- Duration: May be displayed for up to 180 consecutive days per calendar year
- Sign Height: Up to 6 feet, including support posts
- Sign Area: Up to 32 square feet
- Lighting: Not allowed
- Permit: Required
