Capital improvement projects keep Loveland moving forward

Post Date:06/01/2026 2:56 p.m.

Behind every smooth road, reliable utility, safe intersection and vibrant public space is a capital improvement project working to shape Loveland's future. The City of Loveland's capital improvement projects are long-term investments designed to enhance safety, sustainability and quality of life for everyone who calls Loveland home. Here is a highlight of some of our current and upcoming projects.

Thompson Park

Located at 4th Street and north Lincoln Avenue, upgrades will help create a more flexible and welcoming public space for events, performances and everyday community use. Improvements to Thompson Park include seating, lighting, infrastructure and safety features that will support year-round activity while complementing the revitalized 4th Street.

US 34 Widening Project

A new sidewalk will be added on the north side of US 34 between McWhinney Boulevard and Fall River Drive. The road will be widened to add a third westbound land. Lane sizes will be adjusted to make room for a dedicated bus lane at traffic signals.

Boise Avenue Crossing Improvements

Work will include adding median islands, pedestrian signals, and curb extensions with enlarged sidewalk landing areas at 16th Street, 19th Street and Silver Leaf Drive intersections along Boise Avenue.

Washington and 1st Street Traffic Signal

An installation of a new traffic light at the corner of 1st Street and Washington Avenue will serve to make this intersection safer for those walking, biking and driving.

Water Reclamation Facility

Upgrades will include the wastewater treatment process by improving the existing Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) system, expanding treatment capacity with new BNR tanks, and adding additional ultraviolet disinfection equipment for greater reliability before treated water returns to the Big Thompson River.

Even though the Water Reclamation Facility is fully compliant with current regulations, the job is getting more complex. Proactive planning positions us to adapt to increasingly stringent regulatory requirements. Construction at our facility will allow optimization of nutrient removal, reduce energy use, and create additional capacity to serve the community reliably for years to come.

Painter's Alley

Located between 3rd and 4th streets and Cleveland and Railroad avenues, we're removing power lines above Painter's Alley and relocating them underground to address aging infrastructure and safety conditions.

Capital improvement projects play a critical role in maintaining the infrastructure and services our community relies on every day. While construction can sometimes bring temporary impacts, these investments help create safer roads, reliable utilities, improved public spaces and a stronger future for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

Thank you for your patience and partnership as we work to build and maintain the systems that keep Loveland moving forward.
