Utilities Summer Efficiency Guide and Appliance Recycling Update

Quick tips to help you use water and energy wisely this season

Post Date:06/01/2026

Summer in Loveland brings warmer days, busy yards and higher demand on our community’s essential utility services. As you get your home and landscape ready for the season, a few simple habits can help conserve resources, manage the summer’s impact on your monthly bills and keep your home running smoothly.

Summer electric rates begin in July, which reflects the higher cost of meeting increased demand across the region. Using energy wisely during peak heat can help keep costs in check while supporting a reliable electric system for the entire community.

The City constantly monitors drought conditions. Because restrictions can change as conditions shift, customers are encouraged to check the most current watering rules on our Water home page or call 970-962-3355.

Water Efficiency

Water may be a building block of life, but don’t let it build into a problem on your bill. Fix leaks and learn what it takes to use water in a way that does more with less.

Indoor

  • Check toilets, faucets and water heaters for leaks.
  • Upgrade to efficiency toilets, showerheads and faucets.
  • Run only full dishwasher or laundry loads.
  • Scrape food off dishes instead of rinsing.

Outdoor

Irrigation can account for up to 50% of your annual water use. Here’s how you can water your lawn wisely:

  • Avoid watering in the midday heat, on windy days or right after rain.
  • Don’t let water waste get past you, adjust heads and schedules to prevent runoff.
  • Aim to water three times a week during cooler hours.
  • Water in short five-minute intervals with 30 minutes between cycles to allow soil absorption.

Part of an HOA? Let your HOA know they can also sign up to receive a free sprinkler efficiency audit to help ensure shared landscapes are irrigated as efficiently as possible.

Electric Efficiency

Whether you take advantage of a rebate or program or adopt a few new habits, small changes can help you beat the heat efficiently this summer and beyond.

  • Add or repair weatherstripping or caulk around windows/doors.
  • Improve airflow with AC maintenance and clean filters.
  • Use ceiling fans to circulate air.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed during the day.
  • Use grills or small appliances instead of ovens or stoves.

Available through our partner, Efficiency Works:

  • Apply within 45 days of purchase for rebates on smart thermostats, induction cooktops, electric panel upgrades and more.
  • Chat with advisors to explore upgrades like whole-house fans, heat pumps or insulation.

Program update: Fridge and freezer recycling

As of June 1, we are joining Efficiency Works to offer a more convenient appliance recycling program. The City’s current program retires July 1, but free pickup of working fridges and freezers will continue on.

What’s different?

  • In-home pickup option now available.
  • Commercial regular and bulk pickups are also now available
  • Add mini-fridges or room and window AC units to regular pickups

Terms and conditions apply. Sign up online with Efficiency Works or call 970-962-3000.
