Spring Lawn Tips

Post Date:05/06/2026 3:22 p.m.

Weeds

Weeds are aggressive plants that are not native to our community and can impair the growth of native plants or agriculture. Common weeds, such as dandelions, bindweed, and cheatgrass, must be kept below eight inches under the City’s code (Section 16.32.020). Noxious weeds like Canada thistle, meadow knapweed, and myrtle spurge must be prevented, managed, or removed according to Larimer County Weed District standards.

Grass

Grass lawns also need to be kept shorter than eight inches. If you’re interested in switching to water-wise landscaping, check out the Let’s Talk Loveland Landscape Changes page. While the changes primarily impact commercial, institutional, and public or common areas, homeowners should be aware that parkways (the area between the curb and the sidewalk) are regulated under the new code.

Trees

This is typically the time of year when it is easiest to identify whether trees are dead and need to be removed. It is also a time when trees and other vegetation on private property overgrow sidewalks and must be removed.
