Winter Weather Information – January 22, 2026

Post Date:01/22/2026 7:59 p.m.

The National Weather Service has predicted potential for snow Friday night and below-freezing temperatures—including single-digit low temperatures—starting Friday and continuing through the weekend. Here are some tips to help residents prepare for sustained cold weather.

General Safety

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly in extreme cold. Limit time spent outdoors and dress in layers. Check on neighbors, especially older adults and those living alone and consider bringing pets indoors.

Shelter Resources

The Loveland Resource Center (LRC), 137 S. Lincoln Ave., is a homeless shelter resource operated by the City of Loveland. The LRC has declared inclement weather operations through 7 a.m. Monday. During inclement weather, active bans are suspended, and guests are able to access the warming shelter, with the exception of indeterminate bans and bans issued for endangerment. Guests can still receive bans when necessary, during inclement weather, and may be asked to leave. Shelter hours remain continuous.

Utilities

City of Loveland Utilities recommends the following tips to prevent pipes from freezing:

  • Prevent frozen pipes by keeping faucets dripping. A small trickle can prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Opening cabinet doors can help warm air circulate around indoor pipes.
  • Make sure exterior pipes and pipes on exterior walls, basements, attics and garages are insulated.
  • Know where your main water shut-off valve is located and be prepared to turn off your water if a pipe bursts.

To report a power outage, check the Current Outages Map and call 970-663-1043. Our crews are on call 24/7. When you call, be prepared to give your name, address, telephone number and information about the power outage.

If the power goes out:

  • Unplug any unnecessary devices as these can create a power surge when your power comes back on.
  • Do not use gas generators, camping stoves or ovens to heat your home as these can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. Learn more about generator safety on Ready.gov

Transportation & Roadway Safety

For COLT service updates, please download the free ETA SPOT mobile app from the App Store or Google Play

Be aware, use care when traveling. Allow extra time to get to destinations. Snow crews will monitor road conditions during forecasted snow. With single-digit low temperatures, deicing materials become less effective, which means roads may become slick.

Follow the City of Loveland Police Department’s Facebook page for information about Accident Alert. An Accident Alert is issued when conditions prevent police from safely responding to a high volume of crashes. When Accident Alert is in effect, if you are involved in a minor crash that does involve injury, suspected impairment, damage to public property other than wildlife, or vehicles that are disabled, exchange information and file a report on the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle’s Report a Crash webpage. For emergencies, dial/text 9-1-1.
