Council meeting postponed

Post Date:11/14/2025 4:45 p.m.

The City of Loveland has postponed the tentatively scheduled oath of office for newly elected City Council members, originally planned for Tuesday, Nov. 18, to allow time for the official certification of the election results.

Loveland’s City Charter allows for the seating of new council members prior to certification. The last day for Larimer County to certify official election results and for interested parties to request a recount at their own expense is Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Key upcoming election dates include:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 26 - Final day for Larimer County to certify official election results and for interested parties to request a recount at their expense.
  • Friday, Dec. 5 - Final deadline to complete any required statutory recounts.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 9 - Final day to complete any requested recounts for the 2025 coordinated election.

Two or more candidates have chosen not to concede their races. While the unofficial results do not meet the threshold for an automatic recount, the option to request a recount remains available. Unless all relevant candidates concede, it’s premature to host the oath of office before certification.

City Clerk Ashley Macdonald emphasized the significance of this election, stating:
“Voter turnout was tremendous. Unofficial results show that our City had 50% of voters return ballots, which shows that this was an important election.   There is a lot of positive energy from those anticipated to be seated. And, we're focused on to setting up our newly elected council members for success.”

The City of Loveland will continue to provide updates as the process moves forward.
