Willow Bend playground, 2538 E. First St., will be closed Monday, Sept. 15 through Friday, Sept. 19, weather permitting, to conduct routine post-opening inspection and maintenance. During playground maintenance, the remainder of the park and natural area remain open. This includes access to paved trails, fishing opportunities, sports fields, the picnic pavilion, and restrooms.

“It’s a massive playground and it’s getting a lot of use. Like any new facility, it’s important that we check out how it’s holding up now that it has experienced a few months of heavy use, including conducting post-installation maintenance where needed,” said  City of Loveland Parks and Recreation Planning Manager Bryan Harding.

This closure is part of the City’s commitment to ensuring the safety and longevity of its playground amenities. Given the large size and unique features of the Willow Bend playground, including synthetic turf, berms, slopes, and various structural elements, this maintenance period will take longer than typical playground inspections and maintenance.

Willow Bend is the site of Loveland’s largest playground structure and Loveland’s first universal access playground. The park, playground and natural area opened in early June and the playground has been recognized as a Playcore National Demonstration Site. Willow Bend Park was also recognized with the Award for Advancing Diversity and Social Change from the American Planning Association – Colorado Chapter this year.

During playground maintenance, Loveland residents who are specifically seeking a playground are encouraged to explore other options during the closure. There are 33 parks and 30 public playgrounds located throughout the city.
