City of Loveland Councilmember Erin Black has resigned from her Ward 3 seat, effective noon on July 15. As a result, Ward 3 voters will select two City Council representatives instead of one during the Tuesday, Nov. 4 coordinated election. One position will fill the vacancy left by Black and serve a partial term through November 2027. The second is the regular full-term seat currently held by Councilmember Steve Olson, whose term ends this year.
According to the City’s Municipal Code, both seats could appear as one combined question on the ballot. Under this method, all candidates for Ward 3 would run in a single race. The two candidates who receive the most votes would win, with the candidate receiving the highest number of votes filling the four-year term and the candidate receiving the second-highest votes filling the partial term.
During the Tuesday, July 15 regular meeting, City Councilmembers asked City Attorney Vince Junglas to research alternatives to a single ballot question. Staff is reviewing whether an alternative process, involving two distinct ballot questions, could be codified prior to the November election.
Ballots for the November election will be mailed in early October. Residents can register to vote, or view or update their voter registration, on the Colorado Secretary of State’s Go Vote Colorado website.
