The City of Loveland is hosting a candidate orientation for those wishing to declare candidacy for the upcoming Nov. 4 coordinated election. The orientation will be held 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, in Council Chambers, 500 E. 3rd St. During orientation, attendees will learn about the City of Loveland, guidelines and instructions for City Council candidates, expectations for being a councilmember, and more.
The Candidate Orientation is recommended for anyone contemplating running for City Council in November 2025. Those seeking candidacy can use this meeting as an opportunity to declare their intent, as well.
The 2025 City Council election is held in coordination with Larimer County the first Tuesday of November of each odd-numbered year, and this year’s coordinated election will determine the Mayoral seat and one seat in each of Loveland’s four wards.
The mayoral seat, currently held by Mayor Jacki Marsh, serves a two-year term that is not term limited. Marsh was first elected to her seat in 2017.
Councilmembers serve a four-year term. The following councilmember seats are also up for election this November:
- The Ward 1 City Council seat that is currently held by Patrick McFall,
- The Ward 2 City Council seat that is currently held by Dana Foley,
- The Ward 3 City Council seat that is currently held by Steve Olson, and
- The Ward 4 City Council seat that is currently held by Jon Mallo.
City of Loveland elections are non-partisan, meaning candidates do not declare a party.
Per Loveland City Charter, in addition to completing the requirements of candidacy, additional qualifications include, but are not limited to the following:
- Candidates must be a qualified elector residing in their respective ward for at least a year preceding the election,
- Candidates cannot have been convicted of embezzlement of public funds, bribery, perjury, solicitation of bribery, subornation of perjury, or a willful violation of the City Charter,
- Candidates who are employed by the City, or if they are a City board or commission member, must resign from the position if elected and taking office, and
- Candidates cannot run for both Mayor and councilmember in the same election or hold both positions simultaneously.
