Loveland is brimming with history, and its historic churches really tell a story! Many of these beautiful buildings are concentrated in the downtown area, showcasing some seriously stunning architecture. You'll find landmarks like the First United Presbyterian Church, built in 1905 and proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Loveland's early settlers came from diverse backgrounds, and their heritage is reflected in these churches. On the west side of US 287, for example, you can see the former German Evangelical Church, now the Fritz White Studio, and the former Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, which is now the Colorado Christian Academy. The east side of US 287 also has its share of historic churches, likely influenced by the German-Russian immigrants who settled there. The First United Presbyterian Church and the former St. Paula’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (now The Church at Loveland) highlight the strong Lutheran and Presbyterian traditions brought by these communities. While there might not be a documented link between the churches on either side of US 287, their locations and styles give us a peek into the cultural influences and unique characteristics of their communities. Come explore Loveland’s rich history and architectural heritage on a tour of its historic landmarks and churches!
